Colorado Asphalt Services, Inc. ("CASI") was one of a couple of proud recipients of the prestigious 2009 "Award of Excellence" from the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Concrete Institute for "Mix Design Innovation." The award also went to the City and County of Denver, Colorado, where work was performed, and Denver Water, as the "Owner" and Lafarge as the "Concrete Ready Mixed "Supplier".
The story behind the award is that the use of "ChronliaTM," a proprietary fast-setting concrete product, created and produced by Lafarge, has dramatically changed the way urgent concrete repairs can take place, especially in public streets and both public and private drive areas. Conventional concrete takes a minimum of 12 hours of cure time before it reaches 2500 psi (the compressive strength before concrete can be re-opened to traffic). Previously, in order to make such a concrete repair, the work would be allowed by governmental entities only on weekends (unless it was an absolute emergency), when traffic was lightest and a thoroughfare could be closed or partially closed. Using ChronoliaTM, the proper strength can be reached in an amazingly fast 4 hours! With reference to the award, the entities which were honored "teamed together" to demonstrate the incredible characteristics and use of ChronoliaTM. Instead of having to wait for a "weekend repair", the City of Denver allowed CASI to break out the old concrete in need of repair starting after morning rush-hour (i.e., at 8:30 A.M.), install ChronoliaTM and re-open the street to traffic at 3:30 P.M. All parties, and especially the City of Denver, were ecstatic with the reduced time of installation and the ultimate performance of ChronoliaTM.CASI is one of the very few companies with the special training and expertise to place ChronoliaTM in Colorado, and it allows CASI to service its many customers in ways that were previously impossible!
